Under 15 team win through to National Finals


Ashcombe Dorking Volleyball team won through to the Last 6 competition of the Volleyball England National Championships on Saturday 24th March at The Ashcombe Volleyball Centre. The Under 15 Championships is divided into 3 competitions, North, Central and South and Ashcombe hosted the South Division competition. Teams came from London and the South East, after they had won through by winning their regional groups. Ashcombe faced Richmond and Greenhouse from London and Wessex from the South West in their pool. The second pool had South Bucks from the South East, Beach Academy Croyde from the South West and Graveney-Malory and Polonia from London. The competition was close with Ashcombe losing their first game 2-0 to Richmond but then coming back to beat Wessex 2-1. The highlight of the game was in the final set when Paula Sanchez [5] served out the set 15-0 with many of her serves being straight aces. Captain Agata Rychlik [1] lead by example throughout the competition and served and set to keep her team in the competition. In their next game Ashcombe beat Greenhouse 2-0 taking them into the semi final against South Bucks. Fran Lovesey [4]. Hattie Breaden [7] and Lucia Sanchez [6] were steady in defence and attack and kept the team’s hopes alive even when they lost the first set. Bernadet Soti [17] and Abbey head both made positive substitution roles but it was Luiza Zeitune who won the winning points in both the second and third sets and take Ashcombe through. The finals will be played at Loughborough University on Sunday 13th May. Christina Hobbs [8], Tatiana Sourmarie [13] and Holly Hepburn [11] completed the Ashcombe team. Coaches Jean-Max Sourmarie and Freda Bussey
