AIS Cobham v Ashcombe Dorking 3

Wednesday 8th January

 

Ashcombe Super 8 players were pleased to get back to playing after the winter break and travelled to The American International School in Cobham for a Surrey League fixture. The first set was won comfortably by Ashcombe who dominated with serve and attack 25 -9. The second sets saw AIS come out fighting and determined to take more points and they defended with determination and although they lost the set 25-15 they were much improved. The third set again saw AIS fighting for every point and although Ashcombe won 25-17 and the match 3-0 both teams enjoyed the encounter. Michelle Conway and Karen Rossi led the team to victory with strong serves and confident attacking and blocking.

Ashcombe Dorking 1 v Dorking Diamonds

Thursday 9th January

 

Ashcombe Dorking 1 are an all Under 16 team who currently in preparation for the National Championships in Bournemouth on Saturday 18th January so this match was sa vital part of their preparation. Rachel Higgins captained the team and together with Ailsa McDonald took on the setting roles allowing Asia Perking and Katy Begley to spike and attack with confidence. Ashcombe served strongly in the first set and prevented the Dorking team from setting up their own attacks and took the first set 25-23.  Dorking then settled into a steady rhythm and made very few serving and passing errors forcing the young Ashcombe team to get into long rallies and make attacking and blocking mistakes. Dorking Diamonds continued to play steadily and won the next 3 sets and the match 3-1. Coach Freda Bussey MBE said ‘ Dorking were a well organised side who proved too consistent for us and we didn’t help ourselves by making too many errors in attack. However there were plenty of positives for us to use going forward.’
