Ashcombe Dorking 1 started the New Year season with a confident 3-0 victory in the National Shield competition over London Bears. The first set was all Ashcombe with Brandi Head serving the team to a 8-0 lead, never letting the opposition get into their stride. Strong blocking by Leah Blight, Mariana Santos and Chee Cubillos was key to Ashcombe stopping the Bears attack. The second set was much closer as Ashcombe made a few errors and allowed Bears to compose themselves and put together a string of power shots. Meena Adi, Tania Phipps and Karen Rossi were bought into the team to add variety to the Ashcombe attack and the final set score was 27-25 to Ashcombe. Coach Biddiscombe made a few more changes to the team bringing in Amy Antonio and Meena Adi and the third set was taken quickly by Ashcombe 25-14. Ashcombe travel to play either Richmond or University of London on 28th January in the Quarter Final round.
