The Ashcombe School hosted the Surrey School Games Volleyball tournament on Thursday 2nd May. Organised by Surrey Active and Ashcombe Volleyball Club who provided all the referees and ran the tournament.

The Ashcombe School entered both the boys and the girls competitions and were victorious in both 4 a side competitions.

The Ashcombe boys team won four out of five matches beating Tomlinscote School, Winston Churchill School, Apple Orchard School and Broadwater. Their only loss came at the hands of Weydon School 19-20, therefore on count back they won the tournament with better overall match results. Winston Churchill School placed second and Weydon School came third.

The Ashcombe Girls beat Broadwater School and Tomlinscote School and then overcame Weydon School in the final to ensure the sweep for Ashcombe.

Ashcombe Volleyball Club coach Freda Bussey was delighted with the victories. “The Ashcombe School girls team was selected from a group of young new players who have now joined the Ashcombe Volleyball Club proving how well the school-club link is working. The boys team all trained with Ashcombe VC last season and certainly did us proud today”
