10 Men’s and 8 Women’s sides took part in the competition for Higher Education institutions over two days with University’s from as far away as Falmouth in the west to Brighton in the south being represented. On Saturday Sussex University Women and Bournemouth University Men topped their pool and On Sunday Brighton University Women and Cardiff University Men both qualified automatically with the University of Bristol Men and Women finishing second to put themselves in contention for one of the four spots available to runners up.
Although the majority of participants were unfamiliar with the setting in the Surrey Hills, for 3 of the players it was firmly a game on home turf. On Saturday Daisy Mumby and Basirat Mamman were part of the University of Sussex side who competed in the first Women’s pool and smashed their way through to the finals by winning their pool. Then on the Sunday Ashcombe Dorking Super8 Head Coach Luke Thomas donned his playing trainers to represent the University of Brighton where he is currently a student. Thomas’ power hitting took his side to 3rd in their pool, narrowly missing out on further qualification.
