Ashcombe Exit National Cup

Volleyball England National Cup
Quarter Final
Swiss Cottage Vs. Ashcombe Dorking
Telacre Sports Centre, London
Sunday 2nd February
Swiss Cottage Won 3-0
25-19, 25-14, 25-16.

An Ashcombe Team including 15 year olds Rachel Higgins and Katy Begley travelled to North London to take on divisional rivals Swiss Cottage in a national cup quarter final.

Ashcombe made a very confident start which led to a good all round performance however they were let down by some familiar inconsistencies. Later in the match Ashcombe showed some excellent moments in defence and attack. Overall this was a good team effort from Ashcombe which was let down by lapses in attention to detail, especially towards the ends of sets.

After the match, Head Coach Luke Thomas reflected on the cup exit. ‘I was pleased with the overall approach to the game. This team are struggling without a win in the league season and this is starting to show in confidence. They are capable of more but have to realise this in order to achieve more. The end of the season is going to be very tough for the team as they attempt to fight of City of Salford for 7th place and retain a place in the league. I know that we have players who are capable of doing that if they can learn to better handle this kind of pressure. ‘

Next up for Ashcombe is the crucial Super 8 League fixture against fellow strugglers City of Salford at the Ashcombe Volleyball Centre this coming Sunday, 9th February with a 1 o clock start. Entrance is Free and spectators are welcome to come and cheer on the home side.
