Ashcombe Dorking II show plenty of fight in final Surrey League Fixture of 2014

Ashcombe Volleyball Club’s second team hosted Epsom Ladies in the Surrey Volleyball League this week.

Ashcombe fielded a very young team with Under 18’s Ailsa McDonald and Rachel Higgins leading the other young squad members including three Under 14 players in Gillian Quinn, Amy Antonio and Ilona McDonald.

Epsom fielded some very experienced players and it was always going to be a challenge for Ashcombe to compete against their consistent hitting and serving power however the Dorking side battled well and served and attacked with more consistency than they have shown previously this year to keep up with the Epsom side.

Although AD2 ended the match losing 3-0 they pushed the visitors all the way with the second set score of 29-27 demonstrating how much they are improving. Edie Adams returned to her favoured role as setter alongside the consistent Sophie Bushe and both kept their attackers happy with their accurate and consistent setting. For the second time this season, At one point in the match there were three McDonald sisters playing together again.

Ashcombe Dorking I will play their final fixture this upcoming Tuesday when they take on Guildford Mistral. AD2 will return to action on Saturday 10th January.
