Ashcombe Dorking 2 learn from National and Surrey League Fixtures.

Firstly AD2 faced two National Volleyball League fixtures against Sussex Dolphins and Farnborough Devils in National Volleyball League Division 3 South.

With Rachel Higgins, Katie Begley and Lydia Goodwin all playing up for the Ashcombe first team n their successful match against Portsmouth in NVL Division 1 and several other players unavailable through injury and illness Ashcombe fielded an young and inexperienced team in their final home matches of the season.

Both opposition teams featured experienced campaigners and played steady volleyball forcing Ashcombe to make errors in passing and attack. Ashcombe needed to steady their nerves on both serving and net play to compete with these teams and showed great character in both matches and were still fighting every point to the end of the games.

Although the games were both 3-0 losses Ashcombe were still smiling and worked well as a team to keep their heads up. The wonderfully versatile Edie Adams made an effective Libero in the first game and kept Ashcombe in the rallies with her steady defensive play. Issie Russell again showed her strength at the net with new signing Fiona Cotterill gaining in confidence with each game she plays. The team was captained by Ailsa McDonald who led by example keeping her team mates buoyed up with her reassuring leadership. In their next National League fixtures, AD2 travel to Bristol on to play City of Bristol and Team Southampton.

In midweek Surrey Volleyball League fixtures, AD2 had a great game against Spelthorne Panthers winning the first set but losing the next 3. Ailsa McDonald once again captained a group of very young players who all played very well against experienced opposition.

On Thursday 12th February Ashcombe sent an Under 16 team to play Spelthorne Sharks, the Spelthorne Volleyball club first team and despite trying valiantly Ashcombe lost 3-0 but by gaining more points in each setdefinitely improved as the game went on. T
