Ashcombe bow out of National Under-18 cup at second round stage.
Ashcombe Volleyball Club’s Under 18 Women’s squad exited the Volleyball England National Under 18 cup this weekend in a valiant display which gave them much to take away from their 3 matches.
The young Ashcombe Squad featuring England Cadet Squad members Rachel Higgins, Lydia Goodwin and Katy Begley travelled to Bournemouth to play their second round tournament against sides from The Academy Of Beach Sports in Croyde, Team Southampton and hosts Wessex.
After going down in straight sets to Academy of Beach Sports and Wessex, Ashcombe picked themselves up and took Team Southampton down to a deciding 3rd set and narrowly lost out despite a brave performance.
Academy of Beach Sports beat Wessex 2-1 to take top spot and both sides will now proceed to the quarter finals in Kettering in December.
There were plenty of positives to be drawn by coach Freda Bussey, namely that the majority of the team are under 16 and therefore will play in the first round of that national cup competition when it is played on 30th November in Newbury when they meet Academy of Beach Sports , Newbury and Taunton.
Squad: Edie Adams, Katy Begley, Alice Goodwin, Lydia Goodwin, Rachel Higgins, Ailsa McDonald, Katie Molinero, Maddy Nutt, Asia Perkins, Evelin Potcnic, Natalie Simpson, Paige Watts. Coach: Freda Bussey.
