Ashcombe Dorking 2 finish 9th in 2009-2010 season - Sunday 21st March 2010

Final games v Dulwich and Herts and then Norwich and Cambridge proved tough for the depleted Ashcombe side. Despite registering 16 players this season Ashcombe have struggled at times to find a consistent group able to commit to games. Thanks must go to Ann Jarvis who has lead the squad to some memorable victories as well as pulling together some scratch teams to fulfill all fixtures while Freda has been away galavanting in South America.

Ashcombe Dorking 2 lose to Dolphins and Northampton - Sunday 21st February 2010

Ashcombe made the long trip to Northampton to play Northampton and local rivals Sussex Dolphins on Sunday 21st February but did not come away with a win. The game v Sussex went to 5 sets and the Ashcombe team was then very tired for their next game against Northampton which was than lost 3-0. Ashcombe played their two 13 year old players Taina Bedeschi and Sophie Szyszko who both played with determination showed good skill for their young years.

Ashcombe Dorking 2 victorious over Portsmouth 3-0 - Sunday 31st January 2010

Ashcombe 2 travelled to Dartford much depleted with only 6 available players. New Player, 13 year old Taina Badeschi, quickly found her form and fitted well into the team. Ann Jarvis led the team with her usual powerful serving and passing game and Kimberley Neeb and Vera Romano added confidence at the net both blocking and hitting strongly. Beth Taylor showed how much she is improving in both the setting and opposite role. In their second game Ashcombe lost to Dartford 3-1 in a close game.

Ashcombe Dorking 2 fight all the way v league leaders - 17th January 2010

A tough start to the new year fixtures set Ashcombe Dorking 2 up against NVL Div 3E League leaders Northampton but Ashcombe were up to the task and fought all the way through to their eventual 3-1 loss. Fine serving and passing from Ann Jarvis and excellent blocking by Michelle Nudds and Georgia Bird kept Ashcombe in the game. A confident 3-0 victory over Brentwood 2 keeps Ashcombe 2 mid table.

Ashcombe 2 double victory over Portsmouth 2 and Dartford - Sunday 29th November

A 3-0 victory over Portsmouth 2 followed by a 3-1 success over dartford takes Ashcombe 2 to a top 5 place in Division 3E. Izzy Fumagalli showed confidence and skill in her setting role and combined well with Georgia Bird in attack. Gitte Watkins stopped the oppositions attacks with strong blocking and Ann Jarvis, Beth Taylor and Vera Romano showed great variety in their attacks to beat the defence on the other side. Michele Nudds made a rare appearance and added power and determination to the side.

Ashcombe 2 lose to Tendring but bounce back to beat Tonbridge - 22nd November 2009

Another long journey to Frinton-on-Sea in Essex for the Ashcombe 2 players led to mixed fortunes for the Ashcombe 2 side. Young player Sophie Szyszko played confidently in both games and Izzy Fumagalli is proving herself as the main setter for the side. Powerful spiking by Georgia Bird gave the Ashcombe side confidence and Ann Jarvis passed with her usual excellence. Kimberley Neeb, Bethany Taylor and Gitte Watkins blocked and defended with determination and the team is looking forward confidently to next weeks home fixtures.

Mixed results for Ashcombe in National League Division 3 - October 25th 2009

Successes over Tonbridge and Brentwood 2 were followed by losses against a very strong Cambridge side, Herts Nomads and then UEA Norwich and Sussex Dolphins. The Ashcombe team have been unable to put out a settled side this season and this is reflected in the mixed results. Let's hope for a more regular playing side for the next fixtures.

Ashcombe Dorking 2 start with 2 losses but good spirit - 13th September 2009
